CLEAR GLASS - FOSTORIA AND CUT Glass
Clear glass created during the Victorian period in the US is both beautiful and highly sought-after.
Both Fostoria and cut glass were handmade. Fostoria used three-part molds - 3 mold lines can be seen on each piece. Cut glass is heavy crystal handcut by skilled artisans.
Both types of glass are both prized and highly collectible today.
Established in 1887, Fostoria was once the largest maker of handmade glassware in the United States.
The AMERICAN pattern is the longest produced glass pattern in U.S. history, introduced in 1915 and produced for 75 years, and is one of the most diverse, with almost 400 shapes made in this single pattern. All Fostoria pieces were handmade using three-part molds, represented by the 3 mold lines seen on each piece.
American "Brilliant Period" cut glass began appearing around 1876 and continued thru the advent of World War 1, with craftsmanship excelling all others worldwide. Each piece is quite heavy, with very detailed cut work created by skilled artisans.
